The Ngee Ann Polytechnic Atrium was filled with red and white as staff and students celebrated Singapore’s 54thNational Day with patriotic songs, activities and nostalgic treats.

Everyone was in a celebratory mood, taking photos at a photo booth with iconic Singapore locations as the backdrop and eating kachang puteh(a variety of nuts) served the traditional way in paper cones.

The largest draw were the uniformed men from the Singapore Armed forces (SAF) who taught students more about the history of the SAF and how to camouflage themselves with face paint. The braver of the students even had the chance to try out combat rations and test their aim with airguns and training dummies.

It was also common to hear people singing and humming the National Day songs as they were played over the speakers such as the ever iconic 1998 song Home, and Tomorrow’s Here Todaywhich was composed as 2016’s National Day theme song.

The mood remained high until the event ended at 5pm.
