Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) students spent two days with the elderly making traditional foods, playing games and sharing a meal of dumplings.
Held in early October on NP campus, the interaction sessions – the Intergenerational Learning Programme (ILP) – was a collaboration between Fei Yue Community Services and Food AID. Together with the elderly, the NP volunteers with Food AID learnt about healthy eating.
During the food making sessions, students and the elderly found out how to make tang yuan (dumplings) healthier by substituting glutinous rice flour with sweet potatoes.
The ILP Programme was very well received by the elderly participants. Mdm Evelyn Lee Lan Eng, 58, said: “The elderly can be very easily get cooped up at home. So to get the opportunity to go out and spend time with and connect with the youth, it’s something we appreciate.”
